CREATIVE PORTFOLIO
TVC VFX WORK
Below are details for some of the tvc work I have worked on during my time in the VFX industry.
HOLDEN COLORADO (2012)
Role - 3D Generalist
Description - This was a elaborate tvc requiring collaboration of a number of 3d artists to create the cg stadium environment. My tasks included modelling and texturing the majority of debris and props for use within the stadium. I established multiple debris layouts, and then arranged the assets and layouts per shot using vray proxies and instances, which allowed us to better handle the large volume of detailed geometry. I also textured, animated, and lit the additional cg vehicles seen in the background of various shots.
NEW ZEALAND TRANSPORT AUTHORITY (2012)
Role - 3D Generalist
Description - My main roles on this tvc were handling the bonnet and panel deformation of the crashing car.
By using nCloth simulations I created deformed mesh objects which I then used for blend shapes to apply to the final bonet geometry. Additional lattices were used for further control of the crumpling effect. Texturing included the base car paint shader with an additional animated map to be used as a matte for the paint as it began chipping off. I then handled the lighting and rendering of the car using Vray.
BUNDABERG RUM (2012)
Role - 3D Generalist
Description - This tvc required some cg elements to be integrated into some of the live action plates. Of my tasks I was required to model, texture, light and render both a snakes tongue, a large Bundaberg sign, and brick smoke stacks for addition to the factory building. The tongue required tracking to the rubber snakes head which the actor was shaking around.
LEGGOS (2012)
Role - 3D Generalist
Description - Creating some of the bolognaise spills was my task in this tvc, for which we used the Realflow to generate. These elements were then added into the live action plates as required, lit and rendered in vray.
CALTEX (2011)
Role - 3D Generalist
Description - My task on this tvc was Lighting and Rendering Bubbles in a number of shots. HDRI sky dome lighting and matte objects such as the bridge and hill were utilised in the setup to correctly display the coloured reflection and refraction parameters of the bubbles in shot.
STIHL (2011)
Role - 3D Generalist
Description - In this tvc, the client requested that the animation and shading of the cg elements were done specifically to a desired 'pixel' style to support the contained message of the ad. The animation approach for the dog used held frame key poses from the created run cycle to represent its motion. Matte objects were used for the grass, and the original dog model was textured using vertex colour. This shading setup then integrated into a script to create the 8 bit pixel style look, which was run to translate the colour onto the cubes. The same approach was applied to the possum shot, both of which I then lit, and rendered using Vray.
LASOO (2011)
Role - 3D Generalist
Description - A transforming 3d 'Lasoo' model was the task for this tvc, which required a separate detailed mechanical interior to the outer shell. My tasks included modelling the components of the letters in a way which allowed for this transforming effect. I also textured, animated, and rendered these pieces. The pieces were all modelled in Maya and then joints and controllers were added where required to support the animation.
AAMI - APPLAUSE (2011)
Role - 3D Generalist
Description - Tracking and integration of various additional cg banners and signs were requried here, calling for modelling texturing, lighting, ncloth and rendering work.
FORD GREEN (2011)
Role - 3D Generalist
Description - Using a client supplied piece of pencil drawn artwork, my task was to first digitally shade this image replicating the same pencil approach, and then animate cut out elements for the intial cloud reveal. The image was then used for the ground plane, where we established cameras and integration of the cg and live action car plates. Using masking techniques we created the rubber eraser effect to follow the cars wheels and rub out parts of the pencil drawing as they drove around.
NISSAN (2010)
Role - 3D Generalist
Description - Recreation of some of the existing plate elements in cg for additional integration was my task on this tvc. This required modelling, texturing, tracking, lighting and rendering of the wood and brick piles.
AAMI (2010)
Role - 3D Generalist
Description - My tasks here were to create a windscreen for integration on the live action car which required matchmoving and tracking. Also was modelling and texturing work on some of the additional vehicles used in the final stacked scene. The background was modelled and a projection approach was used to create the rest of the street, and which also had to be correctly integrated into the edge of the plates. This was supposed to have a skewed perspective look to tie in with the cartoony look and feel of the tcv.
BIG W (2010)
Role - 3D Generalist
Description - This was a challenging tvc which required creating a 3d environment using client supplied painted images and integration of live action elements. We relied heavily on modelling and projection techniques to establish the wider environments, and cameras had to be established in a unified worldspace to support the linking up of various shots. Once we had the scenes visualised in 3d, there were a lot of blank areas, and we went through a number of iterations to fill these in using additional created imagery based on the original artwork.
